"Look closely at biotechnology, says Douglas Lind, a doctor who analyzes such stocks for Morgan Stanley & Co. While the Nasdaq biotech index is off 19 percent from its highs, "industry fundamentals are generally positive."
It's difficult for small investors to analyze these stocks, but Lind calls two companies "strong buys": Amgen Inc., with its blockbusters Epogen for anemia and Neupogen for stimulating white blood cells, and Agouron Pharmaceuticals, which has an HIV drug called Viracept coming to market."
