Some post of interest from the GG discussion list:

A long lead article in the Business section of the 3/7/99 Sunday NY
Times focused on the impending battle between Sony and Microsoft and
the future of PCs in the home.
nytimes.com

It sounds like a gorilla conflict to me, and though neither company
will live or die over it, one will be in an extraordinary position
sometime in the next year or two. Is this a classic gorilla buy even
though both are mature companies? Are there other competitiors which
have been overlooked? It seems very similar to the old Beta vs. VHS
without the multiple VHS suppliers divying up the post resolution
market.

This leads to a key point in the Game to me. MSFT as the Gorilla of all times is a perfect example how this Game can pay off and demonstrates the difficulties to follow it on facts. Has someone around here made attempts to figure out the segments MSFT is playing in and to assign the revenues accordingly?

It's impossible (to me) to evaluate influences (LINUX, SONY, DOJ.....) without having a clue how much of the whole thing is concerned.

How do the other thread members handle this?

thanks

Martin
