John - Re:"The achilles heel of Intel is there somewhere..."

My guess is that the only arrow capable of piercing Intel's (Achilles) heel is AMD and their K6.

The initial revelation of the K6's die size (166 Square Millimeters) for 8.8 million transistors is a staggering accomplishment.

Since sampling this in early November, 1996, I have heard no other concrete news. If the design and performance are solid, AMD can battle Intel in the Manufacturing and Marketing arenas.

If the K6 design and/or performance are flawed, Intel's stock will look absolutely bargain basement cheap by today's standard.

So, I would say that the two words describing Intel's real pressure point are AMD & K6.

A third factor would be the overall growth of the PC market. Many others can comment on this better than I.
