Nandu: Women, children, minorities, ultraminorities are the least, the last and the loneliest in any society, East or West, South or North, Muslim or Infidel, Jew or Gentile and any other unnamed communities. In certain societies the women are just chattel. In India, the record on women's rights are mixed ranging from deep respect to murderous mania. In most of the societies children's rights are nonexistent, but beginning to get recognition. They live on the charity & goodwill of their parents. Even in the eyes of law in most advanced countries an infant's life is not equal to an adult's life. The justice rendered is always lop-sided against the interests of infants and children. When it comes to minorities and the ultras, the record is bad. The justice always favors the majority and is applied more strictly by the letter of the law on minorities, advanced countries not excepted. Here the majority rules to the detriment of the minority under the cloak of democracy. The minority representation in prisons in some countries is overwhelmingly disproportionate, simply because they are under served, misrepresented and rushed through the legal system. The entire legal system does not simply have the money, time, interest, inclination or moral commitment to serve the under served. At times of war, the minorities are suspected of treason and their patriotism is questioned. I can go on, but I will stop here. JPR |
