It's interesting to compare Brooks' column not with Krugman but with Safire. The latter was in full sturm and drang mode yesterday criticizing the critics.

But one of the several things to remember about Brooks is that Bush was definitely not his first choice for president. He was an avid John McCain supporter, as was Bill Kristol, as was, as I recall, the editorial staff of the Weekly Standard.

Not a better person than Krugman; just different politics.
