My husband and I are on vacation this week -- taking a few short trips. We returned last light from several days at a friends' cabin upstate. The cabin is located in the most remote part of the state. There is only one grocery store in the entire county -- a few convenience stores, and just one (very small) full-fledged 'grocery store'. It was wonderful, and recuperative, to spend a few days in a pristine, quiet, natural setting, away from all the news (or what passes for it) of the day.

As we were driving home, past vast well-kept farms, small mining/quarry towns -- each with its own unique character -- seeing American flags flying from the majority of the houses, and hanging from so many poles outside of small businesses and farms, we couldn't help but feel discouraged that these are the kind of rugged countrymen the American president despises. These are the people Barack Obama wants to bring to their knees, as he simultaneously elevates 'chosen' groups of people who are less inspired, less devoted to honesty and hard work, and less reverent (if they are reverent at all) of those who went before.

This morning we turned on FoxNews for the first time in days, only to discover that four of the suspected terrorists in the Benghazi massacre have been named. Most, if not all of them, were interviewed by American news media almost a year ago, shortly after the massacre took place. So it is difficult to believe that the American government did not have the information that the media did.

Almost a full year ago, four duty-bound Americans were murdered by known terrorists. Their government left them defenseless for hours until they could no longer fight off the barbarians, even though there were forces available to come to their aid. For purely political reasons, actors other than terrorists were blamed for the atrocities, alienating the Libyan government who knew the truth and spoke it. And now it is apparent, to every thinking American, that this administration had (and has) no intention of bringing the barbaric criminals to justice. This administration simply seeks, as always, to issue self-serving public relations statements that the majority of the citizenry will swallow like so much pablum.

And, rather than issuing a public statement on his latest obfuscations, the president simply appeared on the Tonight Show in order to field softball questions -- all of this amid thunderous applause.

Sometimes it's hard to return to what passes for 'civilization'.
