Japan to urge NTT to cut its Docomo share-Nikkei

NEW YORK, March 8 (Reuters) - Japan's government may urge Nippon Telegraph and
Telephone Corp. (NTT) to reduce its stake in NTT Mobile Communications Network Inc.
(NTT Docomo) in a move aimed at promoting competition in telecom market, according to
the economic daily Nihon Keizai Shimbun (Nikkei).

The newspaper said in its Thursday edition that the Japanese government and the ruling
Liberal Democratic Party may ask NTT to cut its current 67 percent stake in NTT Docomo
to less than 50 percent.

The request would be part of a three-year deregulation plan which would be revised in late March.

NTT regards the Docomo as key strategic group arm and is expected to resist any efforts to pressure it into reducing its NTT
Docomo stake, the report also said.
