IMO, YES YES YES! It's always hard to market any product against a household name. Almost all techies would agree that OS/2 was better than Windows, but IBM clearly mismanaged the marketing. Keep in mind that this was IBM who DID have resources which they did use to a great extent to try and build market share. The only problem with OS/2 was that people were already in love with Microsoft. Had to have Windows! Hell, IBM probably could have succeeded by calling OS/2, IBM Windows 3.1 <g>.

People want Pentium inside. The less technically oriented the person is the more likely they are to consider this a criteria. If techies like us understand that NEW CHIP X is as good or slightly better than the lastest INTC then we might consider purchasing NEW CHIP X. But most people want what they hear about, and read about, and see on TV for years. They would still want Intel Inside. Now, if NEW CHIP Z comes out and is orders of magnitudes better than INTC's latest chip than I agree this would make building brand recogniztion much easier. NEW CHIP Z would capture enormous free publicity from worldwide media sources of all types.
