you are correct about austin. it has always been full of lawyers and university people. the city of austin is democrat party everything, but i just checked all the 2020 election results of any us congressional district that touches the austin area, and they are all republicans with good margins in 2020 except texas district 35 where lloyd doggett, one of the dumbest questioners you will see in committee hearings, won again. they have the districts around austin competitive, and we can thank our state legislature being republican majority.

it appears to me almost any of our us state capital cities are going to be democrat party run, because where there is a state capital there will be tons of lawyers. a lot of lawyers love government, and that is why they are in the capital city areas. my speculation of course.
