Let's go back to where this discussion started.

I maintained that a person could control how they responded to something said to them.

That if I said something to you which I intended to be insulting, but if you chose not to take offense by it or to consider it an insult, then I had not insulted you. I had tried, but failed.

At this point in the discussion, are you maintaining that I was wrong, and the even if you choose not to take a remark as an insult, you have still been insulted?

If so, it's not clear to me why that was an insult if it can't be said that independently it partakes of some concept of insultness.
