I see a longer term problem for CDMA2000 outside the US.

This GSM/CDMA2000 dual band phone just isn' t going to happen anytime soon.

GSM is only 7% of the market share in the US. Hence
NO cellphone manufacturers have ever bothered to make
a dualband GSM/IS95 CDMA phone. In fact they have never
even made a TDMA/CDMA phone. The development of GSM/WCDMA
phones is the most likely step since WCDMA is already
being planned for in Europe which is 90+ % GSM.
There is also a GSM base already established to
some degree in China.

I think Qualcomm may have to rely on their royalties
for WCDMA in China unless they can apply some political pressure.
