Yeah, that's always the biggest objection. But here's a fact. Cap and Trade is a tax. They just hide it really well. As the caps come down, the costs of carbon go up and those costs will be passed on to consumers. But those costs can be rebated to consumers.

If I were king, I'd pass a 100% gas tax with a $4/gallon price floor adjusted for inflation annually. Then I'd take 100% of those gas tax revenues and use them to provide tax incentives for consumers to purchase cars that don't use gas and for companies who make cars that don't use gas.

Then you'd see a massive shift to non-gas cars including electrics, PHEVs, etc. People are going to have to spend money on transportation, we just have to move them away from the kind of transportation that makes this country weaker.
