Yes the riser companies are like the phoenix, at least some may rise from the ashes. The more I hear of ARCC's strategy the more I like it. If you recall I was originally down on the exploit-the-tenant business model that most of these companies had. But I did add the caveat that if they brought the best broadband services at the most competitive rate they would do well. ARCC seems to be intent on doing this. There was one analyst report I saw that posited ARCC would offer Fiber, DSL, and T1 at a fraction of the incumbents or CLECs. I assume that Broadband Office et all will follow a similar strategy. The lastest twist with ARCC using AirFiber as a supplemental service to reach more workers (including those not in their buildings) will most likely be followed by partnerships with TeraBeam, Jolt (or DavNEt) and the other air optic players with either BLEC players or some one like MFNX. Back to ARCC because I know it best. I saw where they were not only leasing but actually pulling fiber in several secondary and tertiary markets where it would not make sense unless you have the captive tenant base. I would speculate that if this true, the glass networks could be the most valuable asset of the company down the road.
