HEWLETT-PACKARD: HP & Compaq integrate manageability solutions to proactively monitor Compaq systems M2 Communications - Tuesday, December 07, 1999
DEC 7, 1999, M2 Communications - San Diego -- Hewlett-Packard Company today announced an integrated management solution that combines Compaq Insight Manager with HP OpenView Network Node Manager. This new browser-based solution enables proactive management of Compaq server and client systems from HP OpenView environments. This integration, developed by Compaq, is available at no additional cost to customers. The announcement was made here at the second annual Channel Connection Conference, which runs Dec. 6 through 9 at the Hotel Del Coronado.
HP OpenView Network Node Manager is the
market-leading network-management solution that discovers network devices and provides a map to illustrate what the network actually looks like. Compaq Insight Manager is an industry-leading management solution that constantly monitors and analyzes critical information for every Compaq server and desktop on the network. Together, the two products offer a superior system- and network-management solution for multiplatform HP-UX1 enterprise and medium-sized Microsoft Windows NT environments. In addition, the HP OpenView Network Node Manager and Compaq Insight Manager integration supports HP OpenView Express, a solution targeted at mid-market Windows NT environments.
The integration provided by Compaq Insight Manager for HP OpenView Version 2.0 includes automatic identification of Compaq systems on a wide variety of operating platforms and access to detailed hardware data through an integrated browser launch to the Web-enabled Compaq Management Agents. These agents incorporate a high level of intelligence that delivers the full range of monitored Compaq hardware information and Windows NT operating system statistics. Access to additional Web-based management applications, such as Compaq Intelligent Cluster Administrator and Compaq Survey, also is possible through this solution.
"Today, our mutual customers can effectively manage and coordinate their networks and systems as well as their business-critical applications and Windows NT environments," said Juergen Rottler, acting general manager of HP's OpenView Software Business Unit. "This announcement also furthers the HP OpenView Express solution by facilitating quicker problem isolation, which delivers a fast return on investment."
"The integration of Compaq Insight Manager with HP OpenView builds on Compaq's Intelligent Manageability Strategy, providing our mutual customers with the event management of Compaq Insight Manger within the HP OpenView Network Node Manager console," said Mike Clark, vice president, High Availability, Industry Standard Server Division, Compaq. "By providing customers with this level of integration, Compaq enables customers to achieve the full benefits of our best managed platforms using a combination of Compaq and partner management tools. Additionally, the combination of these industry-leading management tools delivers a more integrated solution for our joint service providers, as well as improves the service levels they can provide to their customers."
