<There are many millions of 3DNow systems out there now. Why wouldn't software vendors want to support them?>

Maybe because even with 3DNow, these K6-2 systems can't even reach the gaming performance of a Celeron?

www5.tomshardware.com

According to Herr Uberclockermeister, the K6-2 400 couldn't even beat the Celeron 300A (not overclocked, mind you) in Quake 2 with a Riva TNT card. (Yeah, yeah, driver support, yada yada, but it has been nine months already, and AMD still can't get companies to release timely support for 3DNow.)

Now if you were a developer, would you spend extra effort on an instruction set that only gets the K6-2 to the level of a Celeron? Or would you spend the extra effort on an instruction set that will push the limits of x86 even further out than anyone else can achieve?
