I'd quickly check to make sure that the Speakers haven't been muted. Usually this can be quickly verified by right clicking on the Speaker Icon in the System Tray, then selecting Mixer; or just double clicking on the Icon; or going to Control Panel and finding the right option to get you to the mixer. I presume that you've checked all cable and power connections to your speakers including volume control, power on, etc. And if anyone else has access to your PC, I'd verify that the speaker cable wasn't accidentally removed from the sound card then plugged into a different (and wrong) outlet on the sound card.
