If speed is what you want, then you would probably get more bang for the electronic buck by simple caching than any other method... and no
latency to deal with when what you want is in the cache. Disk drives are about trade offs... the most prevalent trade off today is cost vs speed. Everyone wants capacity. Everybody wants speed. Everybody wants cheap. You can only choose 2 of the above 3 categories, you can't choose all three...
