He misses an important point: the CONTENT may not be American, but the FORM is. How much more American is the bathing suit beauty pageant? The sitcom? Reality TV is European? America was doing "reality TV" in the 70s with the Loud family... You can't beat a culture that is itself an amalgam of everything successful from every culture on the planet!
