Network Appliance Storage Solutions Certified for Use With Rational ClearCase
NetApp® Filers Offer Scalable Storage Solutions for Rational ClearCase e-Development Software
SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 29, 2001-- Network Appliance(TM), Inc. (Nasdaq:NTAP - news), the leading provider of network-attached data access and content delivery solutions, today announced that NetApp filers have successfully completed certification testing with Rational's ClearCase software for UNIX® and Interop environments. NetApp filers offer global storage solutions that will enable the design industry to utilize e-development software such as Rational® ClearCase® to shorten software development cycles.
This certification expands NetApp solutions supported by Rational in the ClearCase environment. In addition to the previously supported configurations, NetApp filers may be used for UNIX hosted ClearCase 4.x Versioned Object Base (VOB) and View databases with storage pools, for mixed UNIX and Windows NT® clients. Customers will be able to use the NetApp multiprotocol support, enable opportunistic locking in mixed environments, and use filer Snapshot(TM) capability to ease backups and administration. NetApp filers, based on the easy-to-deploy, easy-to-manage, appliance concept, deliver data availability, scalability, and reliability to the software development market, enabling enterprises to protect crucial design materials. NetApp filer solutions are the first network-attached storage platforms to offer Rational ClearCase support, further demonstrating Network Appliance's ongoing leadership in the technical applications segment of the storage market.
``Developing industry-leading software is crucial to Synopsys' success and we continue to utilize solutions that will easily manage our development environment with the lowest total cost of ownership,'' said Debra Martucci, vice president of information technology at Synopsys. ``Network Appliance storage solutions enable Synopsys to scale rapidly to meet the changing needs of our business. We expect to leverage their recent certification with Rational ClearCase to provide options that ensure we implement the best solutions for our growing development environment requirements.''
``Software development is a storage-intensive process that requires management of multiple products, releases, and versions, all of which need to be stored on global networks often accessed by developers on a worldwide basis,'' said Paul Hansen, senior director of product marketing at Network Appliance. ``Software development businesses can utilize NetApp storage solutions to scale their global IT infrastructures to meet these increasing storage demands. Rational ClearCase software certification enables NetApp customers to enjoy one of the industry's leading e-development software platforms.''
About NetApp Filers
NetApp filers are designed for enterprise environments that require continuous data availability. Network Appliance offers a full range of hardware and software products that simplify data management and increase data availability. Unique features of Network Appliance data management solutions include:
Snapshot technology that maintains multiple backups online to ensure consistent images of databases and provide read-only copies of databases for backup, queries, decision support, and report generation. All of this is accomplished without expensive disk mirroring or performance degradation. SnapMirror(TM) software provides remote mirroring of data for quick disaster recovery, offline backup, and data sharing. SnapRestore(TM) software allows any system to revert back to a specified Snapshot for instant recovery. Recovery of multiterabyte-sized databases can now be done in minutes rather than hours without ever going to tape. About Network Appliance
