Re: DVD technology
I am employed by the world's largest independant CD manufacturer,
so i will try to answer your previous questions. Forget the hype that
is being published about DVD's. A DVD in reality is two half thickness
CD ROM's with denser information pit tracks. The two disks are hot glued back to back. A different type of dual laser (top and bottom)
is used to read the information. The advantage of DVD is that can
contain much more information that can enhance multimedia use.
A commercial marketable writable DVD is 3-5 years away at least.
A DVD drive will be able to read CD ROM's so the transition to DVD's
is expected to be slow.
I feel that the effect on disk drives from DVD technology will be neglible for the forseeable future.
