there are a couple of other factual errors in this otherwise pretty good piece aside from the "2 losing quarters" statement.

NT was started in 1988, not "early 90s". The original target processor was the Intel i860 RISC processor. When Intel dropped plans for future enhancements to their RISC product, Cutler shifted to MIPS as the primary development platform, followed by Alpha in the early 90's. Intel was a later port driven by the need to support the volume platforms.

Terry Shannon's comments on the whole Alpha NT fiasco have been consistently accurate, as have been his observations on Alpha and DEC culture in general.
