Goutama,

<Finally, Compaq updated it's Presario product page. Now it shows Athlon models from 500MHZ all the way up to 700MHz (until a few days ago, this page showed just Athlon600MHz model!) >

Yup, this is by far the best launch AMD has done in a long time.

<This Sunday, I've noticed two K6-2, 500MHz desk-top systems advertised by our bay area retailers, one from IBM and the other from NEC! All K6-2 desk-tops advertised were K6-2 450MHZ or higher. There were several K6-2 notebooks for sale. All of them were K6-2 366/380MHZ type. It seems AMD stuffed the channel with many higher speed grade K6-2's in the last few weeks of Q3.>

"Stuffing the channel" has a very specific meaning in this business. In this case, I don't believe AMD is stuffing the channel. 5-6MU of K6s are rumored to have shipped out this quarter - a far cry from the 3.8Mu number from Q2. Looks like AMD benefited from the industry uptick and Intel's chipset shortage. We should know how far this is true in a couple of days.

Chuck

P.S.: Paul missed the 650MHz Athlon for today but may have got the 600Ku Athlon rumor right. There may be some "stuff" here to get the channel primed, not sure how much will be counted into this quarter.
