Clarification. Truth is what I tell. Lies are what my opponents tell because they cannot handle the truth as it would expose the shallowness of their uninspected and unjustified lives and the hypocracy of their pseudo moral underpinnings.

ahem...

I doubt that 70% of the USA is religious fundamentalist. If you count the churches and divide by Sunday and multiply by pews you get maybe 4.2% of the population that routinely flock to divine redemption, fear in their hearts and joy in their souls. Their much overrated effect on the politics of the population stems from their moralistic opinion tactic that goes something like this. "We stand for decency uprightness and avoidance of any kind of filth. We don't procreate with swine and boil babies in barrels. If you don't thump the tub of the Holy Redeemer it is likely you will stray into the path that leads to such licentiousness."

It is hard to argue with a man who has proved that if you don't start to chant with him and obey his congregational orders, you are a baby boiler. I stay away from baby boiling not because it is moral to do so but because it is messy and energy inefficient. Lazyness and economic conservation saves my immortal soul from hades by a hair.

S.o.W. -- In fact Madelaine Murray O'Hair, that famous athiest, most probably murdered by religious fundamentalists in the CIA, would probably get 48% of the popular vote if she came back to life and ran for president. It is as least as much as that Catholic Kennedy got and we all know how immoral those Catholics and boy scout masters are. At least the Gay Boy Scouts want to tell it like it is.

I guess we would have to do a census of beliefs to be accurate. One question should be: "Do you believe that people who proclaim all knowledge of right and wrong comes from believing in what is essentially unprovable and unknowable by their own admission, as for instance in religion, just might be full of sh**, and that people who do not profess to know how the universe is divinely inspired can still discern what may be a proper moral order from simple principles like the golden rule."

As complex as that question is I will bet that 90% of Red White and Blue blooded 'mericans answer "yes" to that one. You may have to write out the golden rule in Tennessee and admit that it is a bit confusing given different tastes in California. In New York you may have to explain that first is not an acceptable short form for as you would have them do unto you.

I have always wondered how it is that God speaks to some people and makes them authorities on right and wrong and leave the rest of us out of it no matter how we may yearn for revelation of basic truths. I have looked at the stars and looked at atoms and wondered for many years but no astounding revelations of the fundamental have yet spoken in their simplicity and brilliant clarity of pathways to righteousness. Distillation of the vibration of the Hydrogen atom to ways of man seemed to lose themselves in complexity and I gave up.
