Microsoft certainly knows how to write an optimal caching algorithm however there are certainly steps which can be taken to improve a specific applications load time. That approach generally causes far more problems than it solves (Microsoft would have provided some other caching algorithm if they thought theirs was seriously flawed).

What needs to be made clear is that they are using an approach which effectively disables the ability of Windows 95 to multitask as they totally bypass the services that coordinate access by multiple applications to disk drives. The true nature, benefit and impact is clearly still a question mark.

My guess is reviewers will expose vast numbers of problems with the product and it will not even get off the launch pad. There may even be a problem getting Windows 95 compliance certification. Worst of all, use of the product may void the warranty of computers that use it.
