There are many jobs that you would consider <$40k jobs, that pay considerably more, and somehow the companies muddle through. Why can Costco pay their folks so much more than Walmart, and give them benefits? Yes GM% would go down for companies, but gross sales would go way up. The human species has this complicated economy to benefit all the people, not some of the people. It's a human construct, not Gods law. We can do whatever we want with it. Currently we have so many biases that benefit the rich. Lets level the playing field, just a bit. Honestly, if we make work really worthwhile, you'll have a far more prosperous and harmonious society.
