Byron, LSI is making a decoder, while MPEG is making an encoder.
An MPEG2 encoder is much more complex than an MPEG2 decoder, as
Koz said in the conference call. I think that several
companies already make a single-chip decoder, but no company
yet makes a single-chip encoder (MPEG will be the first).
Maybe you already knew this, but my point is that I don't think
LSI's decoder has much effect on MPEG.

I have noticed that some people on AOL are getting encoder confused with decoder. While a decoder is used for a DVD player and for reception of real-time video, an encoder is needed for a DVD recorder and for transmission of real-time video.
