News Release Energold Mining Ltd. For Release: Jan. 18, 1999 TRADING SYMBOL "EGD-V" DRILLING COMMENCES AT LONGYEAR Energold Mining Ltd. is very pleased to announce that a first phase drill program on its LONGYEAR Concession is underway. Longyear is located in central Dominican Republic, 3.5 km southwest of the Pueblo Viejo gold mine, where in excess of 5 million ounces of gold have been mined from oxides and a further 20 million ounces of sulphide-hosted gold awaits mining. The first phase drill program is designed to drill test the oxide gold potential of a northwest trending 300 x 700 meter zone in which trench, pit and outcrop samples average >1 gram of gold per tonne. The zone lies within a larger 700 x 1600 meter gold in soil anomaly which is underlain by strong IP/Resistivity anomalies, interpreted to represent zones of sulphides and silicification at depth below the oxide horizon. The program will consist of 1000 meters of drilling in 17 to 20 holes, with most holes drilled to a depth of 50 meters. At least two holes will be drilled to a depth of 100 meters to test the depth of the oxide-sulphide contact and to begin to assess the grade of sulphide mineralization.
