Nokia 808 PureView achieves new heights for charity initiative | Nokia Middle East | AMEinfo.com

The Nokia 808 PureView, featuring the world's first 41 megapixel camera on a smartphone, has achieved a new milestone when it reached the summit of Mt. Everest, the highest point on Earth, courtesy of Dubai-based mountaineer Atte Miettinen.

Nokia donated its latest smartphone to Miettinen, who is on a quest to reach the Seven Summits - the highest mountain in each continent. If he completes his mission, he will become the first Finnish explorer to ever accomplish the challenge. The Finnish mountaineer reached the top of Mt. Everest recently, and used the Nokia 808 PureView to capture some fantastic images of his latest conquest.

Miettinen has partnered with dubizzle to put the history-making Nokia 808 smartphone on the auction block, proceeds of which will be donated to the Dubai Autism Centre.

"With stunning images of Mt. Everest and the outlying areas as seen from the highest point on Earth, we thought the Nokia 808 PureView would make a great collector's item so we can donate the proceeds from the auction to support the children under the care of the Dubai Autism Centre," said Atte Miettinen.

"The summit of Mt. Everest is an interesting place. Very few of us will ever reach it. Atte Miettinen did and the Nokia 808 with its PureView technology and powerful 41 mega-pixel camera, allowed him to capture some awe-inspiring views in amazing detail. We are proud that Nokia's cutting edge technology helped Atte to showcase some spectacular moments of his adventure," said Ryan Fernandes, Head of Marketing, Nokia Middle East.

The silent auction, featuring the Nokia 808 PureView and limited edition dubizzle helmet, is now live on dubizzle at bit.ly and will end on June 5, 2012.

"It's an exciting collaboration with a great brand like Nokia and an accomplished mountaineer like Atte. Dubizzle is proud to support the cause, and to host the live auction for the first Nokia 808 PureView released anywhere in the world. We are truly honoured," said J.C. Butler, Managing Partner of dubizzle.

The listing on dubizzle for the phone was made from Mount Everest base camp by Miettenen using the latest version of the dubizzle mobile site which allows users to place an ad from their smartphones anywhere with Internet connection. The winner of the auction will receive the phone with the pictures from the journey on it.
