Interesting post. I think this forum should be open to alternate opinions. A forum that is just a giant cheering section is not very useful to thinking investors. However, I don't agree with your analysis. Cyrix competes with lower prices, they have no other option. You can buy generic cola drinks cheaper than Coke, but it's Coke thats making all the money. Because Intel's chips are smaller, and because each doubling of volume means about a 10% reduction in manufacturing cost Intel can make more money making them even if they charged the same. Intel actually gets a premium price. As investors we are mainly concerned with profits. The x86 architecture is old and tired, and it will be difficult for either company to make great advances,so the advantage is overwhelmingly with the present leader. Intel's huge cash flow will fund the next generation, Merced. It's hard to see how the competition can afford to keep up, much less gain market share. At this time , at least in the US. business is the main buyer. I doubt if many business buyers will risk their careers on a non-Intel purchase.
