Oh, it's shocking stuff. unhchr.ch
Let's look at a few, shall we? I'll just pick a few of the shorter ones.
In all actions concerning children... the best interests of the child shall be a primary consideration. You disagree? You could care less about the interests of children, who cares about them, eh?
States Parties recognize that every child has the inherent right to life. Whereas you'd rather ... what, exactly? Children have no right to life?
The child shall be registered immediately after birth and shall have the right from birth to a name, the right to acquire a nationality and. as far as possible, the right to know and be cared for by his or her parents. You'd prefer baby farms, or nameless stateless orphans?
States Parties shall take measures to combat the illicit transfer and non-return of children abroad. No, you'd rather they were kidnapped with your blessing.
States Parties shall respect the right of the child to freedom of thought, conscience and religion. You would obviously rather children had no freedom of thought, etc?
States Parties shall take all appropriate legislative, administrative, social and educational measures to protect the child from all forms of physical or mental violence, injury or abuse, neglect or negligent treatment, maltreatment or exploitation, including sexual abuse, while in the care of parent(s), legal guardian(s) or any other person who has the care of the child. What concerns you, that children should be protected from exploitation including sexual abuse?
And so on. Object to them if you like. Personally, I think it's a fine idea for a world body to declare the ideal rights of children. And IMO only a slaver or maybe a paedophile could truly object to children having these rights.
