They actually *do* believe in what they claim to believe in: Free Speech.

(McConnell, for example, leads the opposition to 'campaign finance reform' that aims to put limits upon financial contributions because he believes that CASH *is* a protected form of speech... so his opposition to the Flag Burning amendment is consistent.)
