There is a lot of 'head in the sand' analysis both in the investment community and among the professionals, but the almost inevitable reality is that lower cost commercial systems will dominate in 12 to 18 months.

I have given some technical reasons for this in my response to Calvin.

But this is not bad news for Dell, in fact it plays right into their current strategy, since as the desktop ASP drops, the number and cost of mid-range serves goes up. Dell has been shifting both product mix and sales strategy in anticipation of this trend, and I expect that they will benefit more than any other vendor (except possibly CPQ).
