Anybody want to take any guesses here?
I found this on the Northern light search engine. northernlight.com Go to the bottom to DPR construction. It appears to be dated 10/21/99. I guess somebody in the CA area could call DPR and find out when this construction occurred. I high lighted some areas that I thought were interesting. This is not the first time that DPR has completed work for GMGC, which leads me to believe that maybe this is not from earlier this year or late last year. Any thoughts on this?
Take care, Kurt

GENERAL MAGIC Data Center Sunnyvale, California
OWNER REFERENCE General Magic
ARCHITECT REFERENCE KC/futureplanning
PROJECT VALUE $350,000
PROJECT DURATION 1 month
When General Magic needed a data center to be planned and constructed in four weeks they knew whom to call. DPR, who had previously renovated their 65,000 sq ft corporate office, was contacted by General Magic?s project manager to lead the design/build team. The team quickly developed a working plan over the weekend and began demo with an approved budget the following Monday ? all from rough ideas sketched on an 8* by 11 sheet of paper. The plans translated into a 1,200 sq ft computer display room housing 275 servers with an FM-200 fire suppression system, 15 additional tons of cooling, viewing windows, dimmable Peerless indirect fixtures and wall washers, color coordinated conduit and wiring, and an airbrushed color scheme. The precise construction and electrical/cabling coordination were vital to General Magic?s new business model of providing voice-activated digital administrative assistant service. The room had to be perfect for the first General Magic client scheduled to visit exactly one month after DPR was brought on board.
Since the data center was intended to be a prototype of a technology only recently demonstrated in smaller models, the programmers and computer installers needed as much time as possible for set up and assembly. By framing the walls, sheet rocking the inside of the room, and installing the ESD flooring prior to even closing up the walls, DPR provided the other trades critical extra assembly days. DPR then carefully protected the servers, racks, and even the installers while the walls were closed up, taped, and eventually airbrushed. Similarly, all of the overhead work was done while the computer and rack installation took place below. In the words of General Magic?s consultant on the job Carl Brosius, ?The construction went together like a Swiss watch.?

This site has the GMGC Data Center as being "new". Either DPR doesn't update their web site on a regular basis or it appears as though the GMGC construction was recently completed. Don't know if any of the other companies listed has anything to do with GMGC. |
