Dean is right.

That Lieberman was aghast to think we would change a fifty-year old policy of backing Israel, is to ignore the state to which that policy has brought us.


I think it's important to note, SC, that Dean's view is his is precisely the same as Clinton's which was completely in line with that "fifty year old policy." And that's: (1) preservation, to use Dean's language, of the "special" relation between Israel and the US; and (2) be perceived in the ME as sufficiently neutral to be able to arbitrate between the two parties. Sounds impossible to me but it also sounds like a fair descripton of the 50 year policy as I've understood it. Foreign policy is nothing if not complicated, ambiguous, etc. And should be. Look where the black and white folk have taken us in the last two and half years.
