Controlling the "From" Address in E-Mail

Neil J. Rubenking ZD Tips
December 1, 1999

I discovered that if you change your name and e-mail address under Mail | Options | Server (in Microsoft Internet Mail or Netscape Mail), you can appear to be sending a message from someone else. The address and name in this area are taken when the new message is created, not when it's being sent. The only thing that seems to stick is the name of your mail server and mail ID number, which are meaningless to the average person. This can be dangerous if used the wrong way."
