Planes actively avoid birds and seek to scare them away from airports
They try to avoid birds , but they are a major problem in the east, particularly Canada geese which number in the millions.... When planes hit them it's not just one or two that get killed....jet engines are designed in ingest a lot of birds up to a point. For example, the landing in the Hudson River a couple of years ago...
