I always have liked those verses which were mentioned: "to him who divided the Red Sea asunder His love endures forever. and brought Israel through the midst of it, His love endures forever. but swept Pharaoh and his army into the Red Sea; His love endures forever." With all due respect, I think these are some of the funniest verses in the whole Psalter. After all, you've got to admit it's a bit of an oxymoron, the whole 'swept-Pharaoh-and-his-army-into-the-sea-where-they-drowned, but-His-love-endures-forever' thing. I always thought so, at least. I still get a kick out of them. Must have been interesting when the psalmist first read it in the temple: "o.k., guys, I'm trying to sum up our whole being-freed-from-Egypt experience, and I kinda wanna' bounce a few ideas off you guys, so just please bear with me, o.k.? How 'bout something along the lines of 'he destroyed the pharaoh and his army........................................................ and his love endures forever... or something like that..." lol.(even though it's bad taste to laugh at your own corny jokes. |
