Stephen, Many times you don't have to read the books, just the press releases to see who is supporting the Java platform. Recently Corel empbraced it, and they have been very aggressive in acquisitions, and their suite has hit the top ten list. So they are force to reckon with. Also, HP and several others have joined in on the SUN bandwagon. The feeling in the industry is that Billy Boy in Redmond has gotten to big for his britches, and Active X, although good, may have an uphill battle against Java. Right now it looks like everyone wants to rout for the underdog (Sun), but the recent Office 97 and it's internet hooks and ActiveX will be hard to ingnore.
Peak NetJet's use of Java should be well positioned for future enhancements and easy integration. Many, seem to be worried about Datalytics Blaze product, but it is a suite of utilities at $80 and scheduled for Feb-Mar shelf exposure.
NETJET is $19.95 street price, so therefore it is an impulse item, and with the upcoming editions of computer magazines exposure, I wouldn't be to concerned about shelf placement at this time. Demand garners shelf positioning, and with the Xmas season and press coverage, I doubt that the intitial distribution of 4 to 12 pieces a store will be around long enough to gather dust.
I'm sure the next round of distribution should be scheduled for just after Xmas, and that time you may see endcap displays as the retailers are always looking for hot items during the doldrums after Xmas. But it will take a sucessful introduction to secure the buyers confidence to planogram an endcap. But I think it's a no brainer. Peak is a winner and with Web Animator soon to be introduced, this would make for a great promo in Jan - Feb.
Rocket into the New Year with PEAK Performance!
