<<a Canadian telephone company (I can't recall the name) was planning to spin off it's holdings in NT to shareholders because the ownership of those shares hadn't added to the value of the Canadian company>> It was BCE, the former Bell Canada Enterprises, the former Bell Canada ... etc. Only a $63 b market cap (after falling 5% Friday), and an 18 P/E - perhaps they think the P/E would be the same without the NT shares. It's happened before.
