In order to understand Heidegger, you have to understand all of German and Greek Philosophy prior to him.. Heidegger has a running dialogue with Aristotle, the PreSocratics, the German mystics, like Jacob Boehme, Descartes, Kant, Hegel and Nietzsche.. Plus, he creates his own language and vocabulary within German, which at times is hard to translate into English. The same applies with Hegel and Kant, especially Hegel.
