Unless you can pick the right video card manufacturer that is implementing these technologies correctly....

The old king of the hill Diamond is going to lose it's place of supremacy in the 3d arena because it doesn't have the right 3d chipsets.

My bets were on Creative Labs for the longest time, but I'm finding their involvment in so many other perephrials and the Interwave chip making headway into Creative's old soundcard territory is making things complicated with them.

Companies like Number Nine, who is using the S3 3d Virge and the Renditions Verite are looking like nice prospects. Number Nine is currently having design problems with their Rendition Verite based 3d card though.

I may get flamed for this by discussing it on the Gravis newsgroup, but my bets are still on Creative Labs despite the complications since they have the Renditions Verite and 3d Labs Permedia chipsets.

From what I've found in research, their video cards will be out first, with the most software support and distribution. I wouldn't be surprised if Quake came bundled with the Renditions Verite based 3d blaster.

Creative Labs is more a much more respected name in PC gaming circles than Diamond, Number Nine and the other video card manufacturers.

Hope this helps out.
