Job Hunting on the Internet to Become Economic Indicator

New York, Oct. 24 (Bloomberg) -- Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi
Ltd. and E. Span, an online employment services company, plans to
track job hunting on the Internet to provide data for a new
economic indicator, the New York Post reported, citing Reuters.
The companies will release information that tracks job ads and
vacancies on the World Wide Web. The new indicator, the ''Job-
Listing Index,'' will be released weekly, the paper said.

The number of customers served by the major U.S. online and
Internet providers fell 3 percent between June 30 and Sept. 30,
1997, according to a study by Interactive Services Report, a
weekly trade newsletter.
