Debunking the AP Claim that "VP's Claim About Meeting Edwards Debunked" Blogspirator
Associated Presstitutes wrote:
CLEVELAND — Vice President Dick Cheney said Tuesday that the debate against Democratic Sen. John Edwards marked the first time the two had met. In fact, the two had met twice previously.
Cheney said:
"Now, in my capacity as vice president, I am the president of Senate, the presiding officer. I'm up in the Senate most Tuesdays when they're in session. The first time I ever met you was when you walked on the stage tonight," Cheney told Edwards during the debate.
AP spun:
In February 2001, the vice president thanked Edwards by name at a Senate prayer breakfast. Edwards aides also said the two met when the first-term North Carolina senator accompanied Elizabeth Dole to her swearing-in by Cheney in January 2003.
Do you see John Edwards in that picture?
Furthermore... Thanking someone by name is "meeting" them?
The best example John Edwards could come up with was a handshake three years ago? It only reinforces Cheney's point that John Edwards is AWOL from his job as a Senator. I was in the same room as President Bush once, but I never "met" him. Apparently, Edwards didn't make a very big impression on Cheney.
Edwards was being chastized for missing Senate votes. The Blogspirator would like to point out that Edwards defense only reinforces this idea. We hope he keep using it.
John Edwards never rebutted Cheney's statement.
CHENEY: "And Senator, frankly, you have a record in the Senate that's not very distinguished. You've missed 33 out of 36 meetings in the Judiciary Committee, almost 70 percent of the meetings of the Intelligence Committee. You've missed a lot of key votes: on tax policy, on energy, on Medicare reform. Your hometown newspaper has taken to calling you "Senator Gone." You've got one of the worst attendance records in the United States Senate." Edwards also said:
"The vice president said that the first time I met Senator Edwards was tonight when we walked on the stage. I guess he forgot the time we sat next to each other for a couple hours about three years ago. I guess he forgot the time we met at the swearing in of another senator. So, my wife Elizabeth reminded him on the stage," Edwards said as the crowd roared. The Blogspirator guesses that Edwards also forgot - or else he would have mentioned it during the debate. Oops!
It reminds The Blogspirator of a 15 year old girl saying about the High School football Captain, "I guess he forgot about the time three years ago when he sat next to me on the bus!" It conveys that they aren't even in the same league.
Photo of their other alleged "meeting:"
Is that Edwards, or a waiter walking past Cheney to see if he needs his coffee refilled?
Plus, if being in the physical vicinity of someone means that you "met" them, then doesn't that mean that Kerry "met" Jane Fonda at anti-war rallies, something he vehemently denies?
Also, doesn't it mean that the Swiftboat vets who served on boats within 50 feet of John Kerry served with, something else he denies? Will someone please explain to us the Global Test for having "met" someone?
AP was in such a rush to get this article out, that it was published with the following horrible grammatical faux pas:
Cheney made the remark in accused Edwards of frequent absences from Senate votes.
What the HECK does that mean? |
