Just finished reading The Laptop From Hell.
Before reading the book, I thought the Biden clan was a dysfunctional family, with a none-too-honest patriarch. However, the extent of the greed, sleaze, and corruption the book documents was really surprising.
That 50 intel officers, including Clapper and Brennan, said days before the election that the laptop was Russian disinformation, is one of the saddest episodes in the intelligence community’s history.
Some newspapers point out that the intel officer’s letter doesn’t actually say that the laptop’s info was false but that spreading it was Russia-backed, despite the fact that the NY Post broke the story. And was banned from Twitter for 16 days in late October, 2020. The effect of the letter was to keep the NY Post off Twitter as the laptop story broke. CNN and MSNBC didn’t give the laptop the emphasis it deserved.
So, who affected the election more? An unproven Russian disinformation campaign or CNN, MSNBC, Twitter and 50 intel officers working in concert to squelch a story that would’ve tanked the Biden campaign?
I don’t buy Trump’s notion that the election was rigged, but I certainly believe there was an agreement to squelch the laptop story because it was incendiary. Did it result in Biden getting elected? Hard to prove but definitely possible. |
