You mentioned your son - he should be able to tell you what is running and also know when nothing is happening with the net - so you can run a proper test.

DSL is an odd one. Need proper placement for max speed. Years ago the service in my home was increased yet I wasn't getting good speeds - spoke to the techs and found out the following.
a) Place the modem as close to the demarc point as possible. Demarc is where the phone wire enters the home.
b) Run the NIC to the router or PC (located probably elsewhere from the demarc point).

If you run a telco wire to where your PC is and plug the DSL in, that can(/will) reduce the performance of the service. Not suggesting any changes Judi, but for everyone reading, just some info.
