Why do abrupt changes in sentiment occur which collapse the currencies of countries? Do the underlying fundamentals change that quickly?

Markets are certainly not efficent -- especially markets in fiat currencies ... all subjective evaluations are priced in, but these are often not based on good information. Call me crazy, but I think there are things that can be done to promote freer markets and a better flow of information ...
