Take a look at Doe Run Peru. Private US company bought a defunct former state-owned multi-metal mine and processing plant, started cleaning it and the adjacent town up, poured tens of millions of dollars into upgrading the place, turned the mine profitable and then the state effectively confiscated it.

Don't sink a single cent into a LATAM enterprise.
