Market Pulse: Caraustar downgraded on concerns over earns recovery
Wednesday June 15, 8:56 am ET
By Tomi Kilgore

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Caraustar Industries was downgraded to underperform from neutral at CS First Boston, due to concerns that an earnings recovery will take longer than expected, and that cost cutting programs have achieved less than hoped. Analyst Mark Connelly also lowered his stock price target to $9 from $10. He said the company's core tube and core business has seen improved demand, but more slowly than had been expected. In addition, the company's folding carton business continues to lack pricing power, and he does expect the situation to improve without further consolidation. He said investors should consider shifting positions into rival Rock-Tenn Co. . Caraustar shares closed Tuesday up 8 cents at $11.61 and Rock-Tenn rose 25 cents to $12.25.
