Harrison, I think that Robinson is calling for a legitamite re-evaluation. The ALRI contribution has always been a bit of a mystery because the pipeline was too big for an AGN/LGND joint venture, so even though there were many possiblities, it was hard to see how quickly they would be developed.

The new deal cuts LGND loose. They can do whatever they want with the products and still have AGN develop them (through deals with others) and get a royalty stream. Thus the products can be developed twice as fast and LGND's profits are higher (in the past everything except Targretin was 50/50 with AGN - now its mostly a 6% royalty rate - a bit higher for Panretin, but long term the first generation compounds (Panretin and Targretin) will be replaced with more specific and potent products anyway (ALRT1550 is more potent for cancer - "its better than we could have hoped for" and ALRT268 is more potent than Targretin - better results in mouse models of diabetes and stronger binding to RXRs).

I think that the diabetes deal with LGND will include a premium (or maybe it is tied to some post announcement time period to determine the price of the stock in the equity position - its all very hard to call because the deal will have several components - i.e. a royalty rate in addition to an equity rate and who knows what else (leptin?) will we included).
