The Ukrainian military would become NATO, but not itself be a bigger threat to Moscow than it is now (which isn't much of one). The Ukrainian military is already there. And again Ukraine becoming part of NATO wasn't happening.

Except it then wouldn't just be Ukraine, it would be the entire weight of the Atlantic Alliance behind it. Ukraine would be a permanent NATO airstrip.

That argument is like saying "no big deal about East Germany, its only got 100,000 troops with 400,000 with reserves, ignoring the entire Warsaw Pact behind it.
